Creator Program News: Riot Introduces the League of Legends "Hall of Legends"

In the latest Creator Program-related news, Riot has introduced the “Hall of Legends”, a hall of fame created to celebrate the game’s esports legends, their mastery of League of Legends gameplay, and their impact on the community.

Despite being a positive step towards deepening Riot and content creator partnerships, its announcement hasn’t gone without controversy. Before we get to that, let’s explore what the Hall of Legends initiative entails.

Hall of Legends Overview

Reminiscent of Fornite’s Icon series, which first launched with a skin commemorating Ninja, the initiative is centered around an in-game event and set of cosmetics that immortalize Faker, the Hall’s first inductee whose mastery of LoL has made him the winningest player in LoL and earned him the moniker “The Unkillable Demon King”.

While more details of the in-game event are forthcoming, it will begin on June 12 and end on July 8, 2024. During the event, players can relive Faker’s career highlights by playing through 100 levels while earning or purchasing up to 4 commemorative collections that will only be available during the event.

The four collections cater to casual players and superfans alike. Per Riot, the collections are some of the “most generous bundles to date”, with the higher tier bundle being “highly commemorative, with never-before-implemented features.”

The introductory collection titled “Hall of Legends” starts at $40 and players receive Risen Legend LeBlanc Skin, SKT T1 Zed, Ryze & Syndra Skins, 125 Mythic Essence, 14 Faker-ific Icons & Emotes, “Broccoli Baron” Title, Hide on bush Ward, Unkillable Demon King Banner, and 6 Orbs.

The following two collections titled “Risen” and “Immortalized” build up to “Signature”, the fourth collection, which includes an array of commemorative in-game Faker items and costs players $500.

Content Creator Revenue

What has the Nexus team most excited about the Hall of Legends initiative is the outstanding creator support which is evident by the generous revenue share that Faker will earn whenever a collection is purchased.

The few programs that exist in the industry (and are not affiliated with Nexus) tend to offer a flat revenue share of 5%. However, when building creator programs with our partners, we advocate for creator revenue shares that range between 10% to 20% depending on the SKU, the type of content creator, the platform, etc.

Riot is giving Hall of Fame inductees 30% of the gross revenue generated from the event.

Pricing Upset

Despite Riot’s attempt to have something for everyone, players have expressed their discontent with the high price point of the Signature collection, which makes it inaccessible to many.

With Faker’s notoriety in the community, we imagine many players would have chosen to buy this collection if it were more aligned with the budget of the average League of Legends player.

The Future of the Hall of Legends

This hall of fame and annual event is sure to evolve in the future.

Riot has shared that changes made for future inductees will depend on the feedback they receive on the collections and during the inaugural event.

We’re excited to see how the event and sale of the collections pan out. See you in the Rift!
